Last year, I was working with the director of a large company, for writing her book.
Things were working pretty fine, but they were not willing to go ahead with my pricing. Pushed hard for discount.
So I offered a counter instead: I said I would go ahead with the lower price, if they introduced my course of Corporate Communications for their team.
They were kind enough to say they would get back.
Drumroll…enter your girl’s self doubt.
I responded after some time: I know this course thing is not going to happen, so let’s just go ahead with your pricing.
Did you see what I did:
- I believed myself that I do not deserve it.
- I accepted a no before the other person gave it.
- I discounted my services because hey, I don’t deserve it.
I lost a multi 6-figure deal, even if I got a “yes”.
Some life lessons are expensive, just because your parents did not love themselves because they were making money for you 🙂
