I recently read a post on social media that most people don’t read. Even if they do, they are picking up the books on hacks/productivity, etc., instead of deep, poetic books.
The author pointed out that the problem is us.
I agree that the problem is us. But guess where the solution is?
I have seen some households where the parent is an avid reader, the kid automatically becomes a reader. Of good, deeper books.
Also, I think the tip of the iceberg is always going to have outliers. I am a millennial, early 90s born, and no internet era for almost 20 years. Yet no one in my family ever read. Just because, they didn’t know!
When I fell into the habit of reading, I read all sorts of books. Still do.
It all boils down to two things:
- The environment parents give to kids.
- If #1 was not conducive, what a responsible adult could do.
We always have a choice. Even when we can’t see it yet.
