If I had to give one piece of advice to every freelancer, it would be to reach out directly to customers instead of jobs with people ahead of you.
Here is why:
- When you reach out to customers, you learn on the job. Plus, your reputation and your reliability is on stake. You will do everything you can to protect, preserve and promote it.
- Someone else ahead of you in the game might not give you the creme de la creme of the job. They might give you a lot of side tasks
- If you are anyway out on the fence and putting yourself out. Might as well make mistakes your way and learn the hard way out.
- Don’t limit yourself. The world has already done that to you enough.
- You get the best experience when you have the direct contact with your customer. Get out of your job mentality of having to work with someone ahead of you. Go work directly with the customer and figure the game.
You are basically working in a job if you are working with someone up ahead of you.
You will get to experience true freedom that Naval speaks about but you have never yet experienced.
