No one wants to hear the truth

“Hey, I want to skip the Sunday brunch because I want to rest by myself, read a book from cover to cover, look out the window, go for random walks, and even perhaps listen to Cruel Summer with my sunroof open.”

Alas, most people would consider you socially unacceptable because “hey, it’s just one invitation. Come join us, it’s a Sunday after all. Nothing bad would happen.”

Losing your focus is bad. Not taking care of your free time is bad. Not making time to rest your mind, let it wander the way it wants is bad. After all, the goal of all the freedom and success was to spend your life your way, right? And now you don’t allow yourself to do that even on the weekends?

I know it is fine to go out of your way and your schedule to oblige people, if you want to do so. But if that becomes a habit, you have become a people pleaser and never a soul searcher.

The world will hardly respect your free time. Keep those people that do. But for the rest, I gladly find a middle way of “having a work meeting”. They haven’t earned my truths.
