Big cities vs Small Towns

I am in my hometown Kota for a week.

Booked a cab for my parents today. As soon as the cab reached outside our building, the driver stopped the car.

It is almost an unwritten script that he would have to wait for 5-7 minutes.

However, in Delhi NCR, whenever I book cab, it is an unspoken norm to reach to the cab exactly or within 1 minute of it reaching the pick-up location. Also, never have I ever seen a cab driver turn off the car to wait for me.

This is exactly how small towns and big cities function.

Small towns are not in a hurry to rush. They are okay waiting. They are not in a race. Not in a quest to make more than a fellow cab driver. Or in a rush to appear urgent.

Big cities, on the other hand, believe in getting things done quickly. Run. Be on time. And then go do the next thing. Rinse and repeat.

Neither are bad. Or wrong. It is only about how the same things function differently within a different culture.

Now that we know, we also have an idea of what we want. Or don’t want.

That’s precious. And pious.
