Here is why HR does not get back

Okay, I know, I know the HR must get back to you with a response of “sorry, we are not going ahead” or even the reason for it.

I know you are desperately seeking for a job.

I exactly know how it feels to not have money to figure where will your next groceries will come from.

All of this makes it easy for us to place the blame on HR. If only they would relay their message to us, we would have a little less anxiety to deal with.

I have led a team before, and also been the de-facto HR. In our team, we had a ritual of getting back to people with a no for Stage 2, 3, 4. Basically, everyone except for the ones who were disqualified at the massive Google form stage of Stage 1.

Often, the candidates would respond with a thank you or a suggestion to reconsider going forward. Which is fine. I would often check some of the “may-be’s” LinkedIn profiles some time later, and invariably, they would have gotten a decent job.

However, in some cases, people would question our choices, poke at us, and even become aggressive. These are the very people who post “HR doesn’t get back” and all that.

I’d suggest people like these are the reason HR doesn’t get back.

The most resourceful people, always keep their options open.
