The other day in a call, a client called me “ridiculous”.
I did not like it. Even if they said it in a fun mode, I deep down thought that my behaviour so far made them not think about a word twice before using it.
As I dug deeper, I realised there were lot of fun and chatty moments between us where I enjoyed working with her a lot. Maybe she too. That perhaps led to crossing of a subtle boundary.
However, Oprah won’t call her best friend Gayle “ridiculous”.
No respectful relationship does that.
It is only when we allow others to cross their boundaries, that they do.
Draw your boundaries. For what you will tolerate and what you won’t.
