Someone I know is going for a 3-month trip to Europe, to spend time with their kids. They will get chhole bhature of a famous joint of Delhi packed and carried, because the kids love them. I get it. It is Delhi ke chhole bhature. Plus, kids love it. So any parent would carry it for their kid.
Or think of two people meeting for a business purpose. And then schmoozing with and about each other on social media.
Or someone’s been working hard to get a client. However, at the very last moment, the client backs out.
Moments of joy. Neutral moments. And of pain.
All of these are good and great. But I believe all of these are still projections of someone who we are not, in spirit.
Can you be happy without chhole bhature? Of course you can.
Can you be happy while respecting your business acquaintance while not going down to schmoozing about each other on social?
Can you be happy knowing that you did your best, and while the client did not choose to work with you, all that happens is for a good reason?
Happiness is not somethign someone else decides for us.
Happiness is something we choose for ourselves, despite what someone else decided for us.
We can respect others. We may make better decisions. We may change what didn’t work. But keeping happiness contingent on all of these is only going to bring us more misery than mirth and mischief.
