“The opposite of love is not hate, it is indifference,” said Elie Wiesel.
Which is why, we must be loving and kind to people for no reason.
That colleague who is cranky, can you be kind to them, instead of ignoring them?
The friend who doesn’t care now, can you have good wishes for them at a distance, instead of (again) ignoring them?
The stranger in the cafe who is visibly upset, can you respond to them with kindness instead of returning their tonality, instead of (of course) ignoring them?
Most importantly, can you be kind to yourself when you make a mistake instead of putting it under the covers? (Because it is indifference, bruh!)
Love makes us do miraculous things. Early birds stay up late at night to speak to their lovers, because love. People don’t quit their jobs for a better pay package, because they are loved in their current job. More so, our day is made when a customer service staff speaks to us kindly over a phone call (even though they are just doing their job well).
The corporate life and the life outside of that has forgotten love. Which is what we must give infinitely. Love. Not indifference aka idgaf. But love.
Of course, please draw your boundaries, as I always say. Do not offer yourself to people who have denied of you explicitly and implicitly. But you can always choose to bless them from a distance, or to create castles of cruelty in your cascading thoughts and crucify your coolness. Not something you signed up for.
Love people. Let love exist through every sinew of your being. And you will realise, the world is indeed a beautiful place. Because you exist in it.
