I just returned from grocery shopping.
Costs are under 2 buckets:
- Needs and necessities (that are in season, and hence, fresh for consumption and great for health)
- Wants (That are out of season, and hence, not as good for health)
Needs cost me a total of Rs. 240. It includes a coconut, half a kg apples, 7-8 bananas, tomatoes, tori, cauliflower and bottle gourd. All great for the body.
Want cost me Rs. 200. Mangoes a little more a kg. Just because I wanted to have the last mangoes of the season. Even though, the season has vanished 🙂
In life, things are no different. The things that are easily accessible, easy to consume, good for us, make us richer, make us happier – are also the things that are the best. It is only the “need to look rich” that costs the most, and often comes with the least happiness, perhaps even absence of it.
