Life lessons from Wordle

Wordle is an acute thesis into human behaviour.

4 unexpected realisations I have had after playing the game for 3 months, that applies to life as well.

1. Be easy.

Even though every game takes no more than 100 seconds, it becomes way more difficult if I am trying too hard or thinking actively of something else at the moment. Bring back your attention for 3 seconds longer, and you are almost there.

2. Pass the marshmellow test.

If I do not guess the word in the first 2-3 attempts, there is an urge to look at the hint. If only I pause for a moment and give myself some space, 9/10 cases I am eventually able to reach the word.

3. It is your game.

The other day I saw someone I follow post their wordle for the day—they guessed it in 4 attempts. When I went back to mine and could not do it in 4 attempts, it was so easy to feel FOMO! Even though I guessed it in the 5th one. The goal of the game is not to get ahead of your friends. The goal of the game is to get good at the intersection of your understanding of your environment, pick cues from the last thing that didn’t work out, and do slightly better. Than yourself. Not the friend.

4. The best part, is non-addictive nature.

You cannot play more than one game a day, and you must get back to work. In life too, we do need some recreation. Get it a little, and you are recharged.

Our lives are no different. Be easy. Play your game. Don’t give in to trepidation. Go with the flow, and enjoy the show
