Entitlement

Today I came across a wonderful story on LinkedIn, wanted to share the lesson from it here.

A guy had gone to a tea stall, where he saw a father struggling to get his daughter admitted into a top college.

The man had worked really hard, and the daughter had gotten into a top engineering college. More so, he was willing to work harder to support her through college.

So this guy who posted on LinkedIn offered his help, and after few minutes of helping him out, also offered this Uncle to keep his phone number. Now he will help Uncle and his daughter.

Which brings me to hunger.
When we are hungry in life, we help others in satisfying their hunger.
When we are happy in life, we help others get happier.
When we have risen from nothing, we love to help others rise up.

However, only the people without entitlement can do it.
Only the people who love hard work can help others in theirs. The ones who feel they can work less and get done with, don’t know what lies ahead of them.
Only the people who believe they “have it all” actually have it all. As the 1984 Apple commercial states: “They push the human race forward.”

So, are we pushing the human race forward? Or are we pushing ourselves backward by letting entitlement get in?

Making a career move

Someone reached out to me on LinkedIn yesterday, and really appreciated my decision of moving from a well-established job of an Internal Auditor, to full-time content writer.

A lot of people remark that it is a courageous move, however here’s my take:

(PS: This is a stoic move, not the I worked really hard part. We’ll cover that part later:D)

– God moves in mysterious ways, his wonders to perform (Truly remarked Napoleon Hill in Think and Grow Rich)

– If you have worked really hard and are doing it daily, the Law of thoughts will always be there for you.

– This also means, that the opposite of a good thought will also affect us, if we are really willing to listen.

If you don’t believe this, read it again. And you will see the difference.

A Mastery in saying no

The vibe never lies.
Your soul shouldn’t be exchanged even in lieu of diamonds.

In the past two weeks, I said no to two writing gigs that could have made me six figures.

And since the money involved is too big, first response is to ignore everything and jump on it.

However, in both those cases, I realized I wouldn’t be happy or be myself – I would be just putting a price tag on my soul. And that is the last thing I signed up for.

Thus, I said no. Without surprise, felt light and easy beyond measure.

The best Content Writer is also a contented writer – who is feeling contented with every business relationship they have.

That doesn’t mean not having more gigs. However, that does mean feeling happy while doing the work – and trusting yourself, that when you say no when the vibe doesn’t match, much better ones with better vibes come to you.

Standing for yourself is priceless.

Are you moving in the right direction?

With WFH in place for almost all of us, how do we know if we are going in the right direction?

Yes there are our coworkers who will constantly give us feedback, support us when we need, and also appreciate us when we perform well.

However, to know if we are on the right track in our lives is a different ballgame together.

Here’s how we can know it: By looking at the best in the world at it. (Online of course!)

When we set our standards at best, we get to know what we need course-correct on, and how we can execute it.

For example, yesterday my cousin and I decided to have a micro workout challenge. One game of arm wrestling, 10 push-ups and 10 jump squats – best of two. Since I have been working out for more than 8 years, I won. That’s not the point, however. Point is, when my cousin was doing push ups and jump squats – he was performing an incorrect technique in both of them. So let’s say he was able to perform only three repetitions, his next step would be to be able to perform four of them – without being aware that the first repetition itself needed course correction.

This wasn’t a remark on his skills at all, because he is phenomenal at a lot of things that I am not. However, I could point this out because I have small bit of understanding around it.

Imagine what would happen if we set our standards in whatever we did – against the best people in the world!

How would that change the trajectory of our learning?

How would that make our learning curve better?

How would we be a better person if we had such high regards for our standards, instead of simply using our previous skills as a barometer – which weren’t remarkable anyway?

What’s the cost of your dreams?

What is the cost of living life on your own terms?

You will be criticised by people who aren’t living their life on their own terms.

Don’t blame them, have sympathy for them.

Don’t wait for them to say sorry, you forgive them.

More than anything else, don’t stop when they want to live life according to you. They aren’t happy, you please don’t give up on yours because of their lack of it. The best way to make someone happy is to be happy yourself

The equation with boss

Boss.

The moment one uses this word, it comes across as someone who is dominating, trying to pull you down, and thinks nothing in your interest, only in the interest of getting work done.

While I have worked with several bosses over the past years, I understand getting a good one is merely a chance of luck. Otherwise we are all doomed.

When you have a good one, there may be times when you may still want to change parts of their personality.

Of course, you may be considering job switch or client switch (because the client is also a boss) or making any other move, there is something you can always change, which is: becoming more elevated in your state of mind.

This may sound like the most obvious answer.

Feeling bad and rejected because of boss? Make a more elevated state of mind.

Feeling resentful towards them? Create a more elevated state of mind.

Want to do gossip about them? Create a more elevated state of mind.

You may actually not want to do that in all these situations, and just go and deflate their car tyre as an easy option.

However, here’s the harsh reality friends: Unless you change your own attitude (no matter how good it is right now – remember, elevation 😇), you won’t have the power to change your attitude towards someone else.

By all means keep looking for a new job if this one doesn’t feel right for you.

However, in the midst, in the process of finding out a new one, is it really worth your time to spend emotional and mental energy on someone who probably doesn’t care? Perhaps they are going through a bigger life problem that you aren’t aware – and their behavior is simply a reflection of that problem. Maybe their kid is not as bright as you and that’s why they want to pull you down.

Perhaps none of these reasons exist and still they aren’t humanly nice to you. Everyone is fighting a battle we don’t know – not even about our immediate family.

To make the change outside, starting within is perhaps the first step. And the last one. And all the steps in the middle. Everything else will be taken care of.

No, no one would change because of that. But you won’t be losing yourself in the process of coping up or finding a new boss. That’s when, you become your own boss.

When you don’t know

When you don’t know, you still know.

It’s just a question of going deep within.

Let’s say you don’t know what to do when a friend does not respond to an important message of yours.

When you say: “I don’t know,” it is rather you deciding to overlook the option of staying calm mentally as well as physically.

The journey is never of the answer. The journey is of acceptance. You know it. When you do, how are you going to handle it? Most of us don’t know how to handle ourselves. Learning that, is the goal.

Candy Crush rules

It is hard.

The easiest thing is to sit on the couch and eat French fries. Or play Candy Crush.

Waking up in the morning and working out relentlessly didn’t come easy to Jordan as well.

It is going to take a lot out of you to get there. Yet if you don’t make the efforts to get there you will get to a place it would be very difficult to get back from.

Working requires hard work.

Doing nothing requires hardest work to deal with yourself.

You get to decide.

Why do we work?

The role of your work is to make someone else’s work easier.

If your work is built on letting others make their efforts, have we really made some good efforts?

Make an effort to reduce someone else’s efforts and their ease will serve as a blessing for you.
