Life lessons – 18 Aug 2020

1. Maturity in life is accepting that someone in family that was closest to you dome day, isn’t close anymore.

2. When you don’t check an email / notification immediately because it isn’t important, you become more powerful. (PS: 95% aren’t important.)

3. Speak your truth even when your voice shakes. The only person going to be with you from start of life to end is you, and if you don’t speak your truth, do you really want to live with a liar all your life?

4. Parkinson’s Law is as real as gravity.

5. Focus. Focus. Focus is the ultimate asset.

Why do we reflect?

You reflected on something that you wanted to change.

And you decided to change.

The question is: Till when?

Not only for one day or two. What are you doing to make change stick?

Before forming one more new habit and failing at all of them and calling yourself a failure, create a plan for sticking to just one habit.

And then the next. Drop by drop. Dip by dip.

What’s your weight?

This lockdown came along with gyms locked down.

Till March, I had reached a great weight resistance. Then began the workout at home.

Today I brought in weights from my old home, and lo, the resistance which I could carry initially wasn’t there. The reason, obviously, was lack of practice with weights.

In life, the more we continue to live with goodness, the more resilience we develop against what’s isn’t right – without losing on who we are.

If we remain where we are without increasing that quota of goodness, over time, we’ll lose it.

Over time, we will lose ourselves.

We, the humans

Just because we are humans, we will thrive in accordance with living with other humans.

This would, in itself, make the process difficult because all humans are different.

However, if you learn to be easy, things are going to change – because you cared for the common good, you cared to make the other person feel good, and also you didn’t care to follow the angry zone of the world and marched to your own beat of ease and peace.

When you don’t know

When you don’t know, you still know.

It’s just a question of going deep within.

Let’s say you don’t know what to do when a friend does not respond to an important message of yours.

When you say: “I don’t know,” it is rather you deciding to overlook the option of staying calm mentally as well as physically.

The journey is never of the answer. The journey is of acceptance. You know it. When you do, how are you going to handle it? Most of us don’t know how to handle ourselves. Learning that, is the goal.

Candy Crush rules

It is hard.

The easiest thing is to sit on the couch and eat French fries. Or play Candy Crush.

Waking up in the morning and working out relentlessly didn’t come easy to Jordan as well.

It is going to take a lot out of you to get there. Yet if you don’t make the efforts to get there you will get to a place it would be very difficult to get back from.

Working requires hard work.

Doing nothing requires hardest work to deal with yourself.

You get to decide.

How you doin?

Your idol is doing something you don’t want to be doing.

The world is telling you to do that just doesn’t feel right!

Someone in the extended family is teaching how to betray others.

Everyone has their opinions and what they say is right where they are.

You do your own thing. Not because it’s hard. Rather because it’s difficult to be like someone else. When you are you, you will work harder than it is required, and you will feel zero fatigue because you are living by your own values.

Even if it is the same boring stuff every time, you know when you know.

The best shot

I will publish my article when I would have given my best.

I will apply for that interview when I am 100% ready.

I will talk to them when I am in a great frame of mind.

I will, when I…

This is an easy way to say you don’t have the time, the resources, the ability, and most importantly, the self confidence to create work.

Done is better than perfect, says Seth Godin.

Once you get into this groove of doing, doing excellent will automatically follow as the next right move.

We need to learn to walk first, if we want to win a marathon some day.

The problem

If you wanna know what’s your problem, just try spending some time with yourself in solitude. That’s the real game.

All your weaknesses will come to the surface.

All your problems will come out with a revelation: that the source of them is common.

And when the source of that is common, the solution has to one.

What is that one, has to be decided and implemented by the one reading this right now.

Implement. Execute.

(Your own) advice

“I tell them to do this a lot, they don’t listen to my advice.” We think this a lot about other people, don’t we?

A bigger question to consider could be:

Do you keep a tab of what advice do you give to yourself? Do you execute on that advice?

If the answer is “no”, now you know why they don’t execute.

If you do execute on your own advice, there’s no reason others won’t.
