How I broke an old habit

For several months, I’ve been trying to change a habit of mine, which is: to not check work related WhatsApp messages and emails on Sundays.

However, despite multiple efforts, wasn’t able to get off the habit.

Same thing happened yesterday. I attended to work messages in the first half.

In the second half, I went to play badminton with my nephews and nieces. As a result, when I came back, still I didn’t open their WhatsApps. I didn’t have the urge in the first place!

It shows the power of physical activity on our mind, and how much controlling power we have.

No matter how important or urgent the work is, nothing is more important than the much-needed nothingness.

The meaning of mistakes

One of the most fascinating things about life is mistakes.

More interesting than mistakes, is about studying people who make mistakes.

There are three kinds of people:

1. Who realise they have made a mistake, admit it, and try not to make the same mistake twice.

They are the top 1% of the world. Even if they are not famous, they are indispensable in whatever they do.

2. Who realise they have made a mistake, and don’t admit it.

The three-letter word comes in. However, there is still hope that they will learn from their mistakes, even silently.

3. Who do not realise they have made a mistake.

They are the people in deepest pain, and aren’t aware of it.

As much as we’d hate admitting it, we all are surrounded by someone in each category, the third one being the most vulnerable ones.

Small tips:

a. Bless them.

b. Focus on the good in your life versus the opposite in their life.

c. Chill man!

Everyone is fighting a silent battle we aren’t aware of.

The joy of life, is learning to deal with these people in an effortless manner, that you be responsible for not allowing anyone to take your happiness away.

Effortlessly.

Why should you hang around the right people?

1. They give us the confidence that we, too, could be them.

2. We understand how things work versus how we have been doing them.

3. We learn to measure things, instead of beating around the bush.

4. Life is energy. Not the words or broken promises.

5. We are always, always the product of five people we spend our time with.

What kind of friends should you make?

The ones who are unlike you.

The ones who challenge your beliefs.

Those who don’t let you down, no matter what.

The ones who are there for you.

And the ones who are there with you.

(PS: This post is inspired by the good good time I’m having with my friends these days 😎)

Irony (self created)

We feel great when they badmouth others. Yet we feel superbad when someone else does it for us.

We do not feel anything while making others feel lonely. Yet we never want to feel that emotion ourselves.

We love to be loved. Yet do not love.

We feel great on doing something and useless on doing nothing – whereas doing nothing makes doing something worthwhile.

We want more time, yet are poor managers of our own.

The irony that needs to be solved in the world starts with one person solving it for themselves.

Rants about truth

1. If you want to capture your truth to show it to others, you have already started living a lie.

2. A great life is where you are humble even when you don’t know how to.

3. Protecting your mindset is the best insurance.

4. Challenging yourself is the best safety.

5. And a little reminder: You are the product of five people you hang around with.

About values of life

1. Staying by your values is hard. Yet devaluation of yourself is a murder.

2. You are who you are when no one is watching.

3. Doing nothing is important. And sometimes disastrous. It’s about figuring it out.

4. Helping without the ultimate intent is the real measure of kindness.

5. You are what you repeatedly do. Excellence is a habit. – Aristotle

The Quiz

Today I attended a quiz. Strangers quiz. Organised by Shakti Shetty – the Zomato copywriting guy. With random people. Just out of the blue. Because why not? Let’s make the full use of Zoom barabar Zoom.

Was fun. You had to connect the dots.

The fun lied not in knowing, rather in the process of figuring things out.

  1. He made a wonderful, neat presentation with questions and answers.
  2. Not only that, different slides used different templates.
  3. If you interrupted someone else, you lose your marks.
  4. Why I loved the quiz was because Shakti is as real as he could get. He doesn’t use stuff like “Thank you so much for all the love” or “I am so happy for the wonderful fun here” or “any internet mumbo jumbo that all of us ‘aspiring’ famous people have coined ourselves to.” Just human. Just real. A fan of his art (that is always visible in his words and Insta stories) for life.
  5. Most importantly, it’s such an amazing feeling to connect with strangers, forgetting all your worries of the world, and come together just to have fun. Something that we have forgotten in this rat-race of figuring things out.

Would be attending more in the future! Yayyy!

The most fascinating thing about life

Do you sometimes feel overwhelmed by what the world has caused you?

It’s like nothing is working out, and you have struggles to solve.

And you go about your work.

Then,
all of a sudden,
in a movement of ether,
you have a conversation
with a co-worker or anyone who doesn’t know about your current mood,
and bam! You are all set!

You are back to your energy, your charisma and back to rocket-speed.

That’s the most fascinating thing about life.

The question is,

“If someone else could do that to us, will we always wait for others?”

How to gain respect of others

1. By saving their time.

2. By accepting them where they are, and not judging them (even in our mind.)

3. By showing up when you commit to do so.

4. By respecting them for their life choices, even if they are not aligned with what they do or have done.

5. By giving up the need to be respected.

MS Dhoni

MS Dhoni announced his retirement today.

The sad pic of that semi-final match in WC 2019.

Sad we live in a society that makes a gem retire because he couldn’t get us to the Finals of the World Cup.

PS: How could we forget it was a team of 11 players on the field?

How could we forget we trusted him so much that we depended only on him?

I have never been a cricket fan. Never watch matches.

However, the next time someone doesn’t get the score you think they should get, don’t treat them like as a society we treated Dhoni.

You will be loved forever MS! For all the things you didn’t say 💖

Freelancing so far

The past few months of freelancing have been super fun.

Got some really amazing clients, and having the work I love.

Looks like a fairy tale, isn’t it?

Of course not. Because out of very few things that have worked out, there are 10X things that haven’t!

Applied for freelancing jobs that didn’t work out.

Cold emails that didn’t get responded.

And opportunities I was sure of getting didn’t come.

However, what did work out was engagement and relationships with the clients that I am working with right now.

No formula, no random tricks. Just success is directly proportionate to the efforts you put in.

The number game.

Me and my parents

Today I wasn’t feeling good about my relationship with my parents. Somewhere I want them to talk about things that interest me.

However, later I realised that this is not the first time I have had the same emotions. Happened multiple times.

Till when would I allow myself to wallow in the same pain? Is my time so easy to be wasted?

So here’s what I did to keep me grounded:

• Made a gratitude list. My mood is my responsibility.

• Played a spiritual and practical video on YouTube while working

• Actually spoke with them. Because perhaps that is what they think of me.

That’s it. Problem solved. Rinse and repeat, the next time it occurs.

Life lessons from today

1. Taking notes while reading is an excellent way to grasp (and re-read) important information.

2. Don’t worry about the next 8 years, think about the next 8 days and executing super hard on them.

3. “Don’t charge for how much time it takes you. Charge for the value you provide.” – Ankur Warikoo

4. Hanging around with the right people is priceless. Even if you’re paid less, figuring out how to earn money from other sources would be easier.

5. What you think about, you being about. Never the other way round.

6. Spending less time on Twitter and Instagram is a phenomenal saving of your time. Time = money. Period.

7. Feeling sad is a habit more than circumstances. So is feeling happy no matter what.
