The Magic of Meditation

January is the month of meditation.

Especially the day of 18th January – where all of our community members gather together and have a combined meditation, for throughout the day. At least for 8 hours of the day.

You know what, for the first 30 minutes, you are trying to meditate.

For the rest of the day, meditation flows through you 🙂

My favourite one-liners

This is the collection of my musings while working, working out, figuring out life, and most of the times, showing up! Enjoy, and feel free to share 🙂

  1. Talent becomes latent when work doesn’t become hard.
  2. They don’t take care of you because they are too broken to take care of themselves.
  3. We wait for an idea of the future hoping for things to get better, not realising it is getting created here and now – with what we think and what we do.
  4. Chill bro! This too, shall pass!
  5. Never leave yourself. Because others will do that to you anyway.
  6. If you are not cunning, you should be proud of yourself.
  7. Saying no to things that aren’t important isn’t a bug you have, it’s your feature.
  8. Sometimes the best moments get created when we are NOT recording videos of them. The happiness is living in the happiness.
  9. Poking fun at others is a sign of lack of self-honour.
  10. Playing revenge on mean people is becoming a photocopy of the one you despise the most. Why would you do that?
  11. People don’t get tensed because they are tensed. They get tensed because they’re in a habit of getting tensed.
  12. Just like laptop’s fan starts shouting when a lot of load is put onto it, so does our brain starts shouting when we expose it to a lot of load. Less is more, baby!
  13. If our follow-up email to a cold prospect could land us a client, imagine how our follow-up to a cold-blooded person might make them warm! Ego is indeed the enemy!
  14. Awareness is being aware of what’s good in you and what isn’t. It doesn’t mean endorsing what’s bad in you because you are “self-aware”.
  15. Our happiness is a function of how quickly we are able to bounce back from a mood-off.
  16. We spend our lives thinking about the correct thing to do, not realising not doing is the most incorrect thing to do.
  17. If we don’t pursue momentary pain, we sign up for a permanent one.
  18. Be hard on yourself so you could be easy on others.
  19. You’re a beautiful person if you take responsibility.
  20. You are the change you’re looking for.

The reality of social media

You must have seen people partying on the beach on Instagram.
Or making teddy bears of snow.
And making you feel like it is your life only that is at loss.

Here’s a silent truth:
Someone I know personally posted a vacay pic of theirs, with a thoughtful caption and how happy they were truly being in this flow state of life. However, I know they are going through a really, really tough time. A super tough time.

It is great that they took a break, no doubts about that.

But here is what I want you to consider:

  1. Social media = away from reality. Almost always. Rather always.
  2. People show that they are enjoying because they have FOMO – they have also seen others showing their “happy” pics and would do anything to show that they are also happy.
  3. Our real nature is happiness. When we are away from it, we would do anything to get closer or appear closer to happiness. If we get close to real happiness, awesome! If we get close to faking happiness, our hole of sadness gets deeper.

Choose the form of happiness you want to live in. And the coolest of the coolest people, who are your (real) role models, they hardly share their vacay pics online with a “success-filled” caption. Because they know that real happiness is the remaining 350 days as well, when we are not on a holiday.

Read the above line again.
For yourself.

Whatever you do…

Whatever you do, others draw an example from.

Whatever you do, becomes the barometer for others to function.

Whatever you do, determines your state of mind.

Remember this the next time you’re going to take a step your intuition refuses to.

Documenting NY habits

This year, I’m doing something different: creating habits instead of goals. While I do have some goals at the back of my mind, they’re all effective when we build systems around them.

So here are mine:

1. Create one IG reel + one LinkedIn post daily. And write a Twitter thread every Tuesday about lessons from the book I’m reading.

2. Sleep by 9:30 PM. Daily.

3. Have daily habits of reading and meditation, and check my chart daily at EOD.

The only person between you and your happiness and success is you, and let good habits nudge you away from the old you.

The best hack to be peaceful

In the last week of 2020, I removed the email app from my phone.

Little had I expected, my screen time went down drastically.

So, going to continue that in 2021 as well. Even if there is an extreme news of me making it to the best seller list, I’ll be able to enjoy it when I am peacefully sitting in a place to read that email. Quick notifications aren’t a great place to celebrate.

Maybe will try that will WhatsApp soon:)

Wouldn’t agree on this one…

I read somewhere that pain is just pain. Someone else’s intensity of pain doesn’t reduce your pain.

While most people may agree, I tend to disagree.

Someone else’s intensity of pain might be different from yours. And if we are unable to acknowledge that, it makes us more selfish and less empathetic.

If we are in pain and still can acknowledge someone else is in pain, we are truly a caring human being.

I almost forgot…

I almost forgot to write today’s blog post.

And now, while sleeping, reminded of that.

So, what is it about today?

Hmm, I’m thinking of charging for consulting as well over the call. Okay, the client is going to pay me beautifully when the work starts, however why do I behave like a fool and offer 2.5 hours of free consulting?

Nishtha, grow up!

No one will value you if you don’t do that to yourself.

That said, the last leg of brainstorming with the client is left, will seek guidance from God in meditation early morning tomorrow, if it is right to charge or be modest if the contract is already yours.

O yeah, that happens with me too!

O yes.

It is weird sometimes.

People behave in strange ways.

They act as if they don’t care.

And more than anything else, they tell you that you matter however, that is the last thing you see.

So, what to do?

Take care of yourself buddy!

The advice is real, the execution in takes all the effort. And if you are you, there is no one that can shake you.

Love…

When we love someone, we don’t want to cry for them.
Because had they been around, they wouldn’t have liked seeing us cry.

Go live your life in the happiest version possible, in a manner had they been around.
Not because you are rejoicing that they went, rather because we want to let them know that in order to keep them happy, we will stay happy.

Our happiness is a token to tell them back, that we love them

Negative life lessons for a positive life

Negative things about getting a positive life

1. Honesty is an expensive gift. Don’t expect it from cheap people.

2. When people show you who they are, believe them.
– Maya Angelou

3. The best way to deal with corporate politics is to live by and speak your truth. It will make you undefeatable.

4. People will play games against you. Worry not, for they not know against whom are they playing the real game.

5. Don’t trust your extremely good or bad moods. What happens in the middle – your intuitions, people’s behaviours, what you want to do – that is the real stuff.

Some small reflections about life, that were sadly not as positive, however, very important to inch towards positivity and not being affected by the negativity of others.

Two money lessons from my life

Some money lessons:

  1. If you want to earn more and you do have the capability and credentials for that, don’t settle for a less-paying job or contract. No one will respect you if you won’t.
  2. Pay credit card bill immediately after making the transaction. You will have reward points, AND you will not see a HUGE bill at the end of the month.

Tell me, have you tried these and succeeded?

People that make you anxious

Have a pattern.

They will be unkind to you 10 times, and kind to you once. So that they can lean into that kindness and make you feel worthless 10 more times.

It happens in so many relationships of all kinds that it isn’t funny.

Here is my advice: Go build yourself. Go surround yourself with right people. Run away from wrong people. Even though they will always make you feel you are wrong, and spineless. Even if they call you names and question your character.

The safest people will always love you like a human being and not like vending machine, even if (especially if) you have made a massive error

Maa Papa 💖

All of a sudden, I’ve enjoyed being with my family now.

Now that vaccine is almost there, now that there is a job to look up to, now that I’ll be back to Delhi somewhere by the end of winter, I’ve already started missing my parents.

They’re (not so much) weird for me, and I guess so am I for them.

This moment, is all you have!

As a line from one of my favourite songs goes: “Reh jayengi, yeh nishaaniyaan, rahein naa rahein hum! Aa jee le ek pal mein sau janam!”

Today I’ll document my day

It is said that when you make something public, there are far greater chances of you getting back on course with things that aren’t serving you.

So, here’s me trying to document my day.

Not sure if I could document everything, but here’s the good and the parts to be changed.

To be changed:

  1. Checked phone @5:30. Bad choice Nishtha. If you check your phone before 8AM, it will be an addiction throughout the day.
  2. Did not like the baingan ka bhartha that Mom made. So made myself a gud ki roti and an ajwain parantha with curd for lunch. Though it was yum, no veggies means no satisfaction, so look for veggies in lunch next time.
  3. Boss had asked for social media content for next week. I got better from last week, but not up to the mark. Need to work more on it.

Good things that happened:

  1. Was able to reach halfway through the wall-headstand in yoga.
  2. Attended the YouTube team call and the inherent feeling of inferiority complex was resolved, because I work with a fab boss who thrives on giving respect to all:)
  3. Submitted client’s content for next week and did something he hadn’t expected. Fingers crossed:)
  4. Walking to the meditation center daily. Because it’s cold and the movement will bring in some heat, and it’s damn cold to ride a two-wheeler in winters.
  5. Had a video call with my sis and nephew. Don’t know why, but that’s good anyway!
  6. Made matar paneer + rice for dinner. Hadn’t eaten a veggie since the morning bruh…
  7. Yesterday’s IG reel was loved more than expected. Looking forward to more love.

Hmm…that was fun. I should be doing more of these. Makes life accountable.

Thanksgiving is all about…

Thanksgiving is all about…

• Being grateful to your farmers, because without them, even pizza wasn’t possible.

• Being grateful for the electricity, otherwise how would geyser operate?

• A thousand more things tbh, but today, let’s stop with the fact that we have almost survived 2020 stronger and better.

What else could thanksgiving be about?

If this happens, that will definitely happen

If you really work hard and get better, you will get where you want to.

If you keep forgiving people, you will get lighter.

If you keep eating a bit lesser, soon you will get to your desired destination.

If you keep persisting when you are supposed to give up, you will get great rewards instantly over a period of time.

If you be there for yourself, you will be able to be there for others as well. Not vice versa.

It turns out, we already know all the answers. We just need to decide, as Seth Godin says.

Do you know that popular kid?

You may be the popular kid. Or you may be not.

You may be the boss/teacher’s favourite. Or you may be not.

But there is something that could never be taken from you:

1. Hard work.

2. Beginner’s mindset.

3. Signing up to do the work that you could play politics on and get away with.

4. Taking responsibility.

5. Doing 1-4 even when it is difficult.

It’s not easy. That’s why totally worth it.
