If this happens, that will definitely happen

If you really work hard and get better, you will get where you want to.

If you keep forgiving people, you will get lighter.

If you keep eating a bit lesser, soon you will get to your desired destination.

If you keep persisting when you are supposed to give up, you will get great rewards instantly over a period of time.

If you be there for yourself, you will be able to be there for others as well. Not vice versa.

It turns out, we already know all the answers. We just need to decide, as Seth Godin says.

A note to myself

Be patient.

It is coming.

It is right there.

Just be patient and let yourself know that all you wanted is already with you.

All you have got to do is remember who you are, and then straighten your crown.

Also, it is very veryyyy easy to get lost in the approval or hate of others. Be neutral and let things happen as you don’t change.

That drive from Noida to Gurgaon

May 2017.

We had gone for an official team retreat. Most of us were staying in Noida, and we had gone for a 2D 1N stay in a resort in Gurgaon. The team was packed in 3-4 cars, one of which was mine. I was prepared to listen to the female-driver jokes, because not getting affected by them had become a forte by then.

I remember we had halted at a place, and the male colleague got out of the back seat and came to the driving seat to me, and said he will drive. That was rude, however in a society that anyway screws female drivers, this was a normal meme material. I politely refused, stating that I love driving long distances, and I wanted to drive.

While I did get a “chance” to drive, why am I sharing this story with you today?

Because when we say we need equal rights for women, et al, we need to remember that most often women willingly give up their rights.

Having the awareness to respectfully refuse, is the Super Power we didn’t even know existed.

Stand for yourself, people! How will anyone help you out if you aren’t in a position to help yourself out?

If no one told this to you, here it is…

1. You are doing your best. Stop beating yourself up.

2. You have a lot of power. You just need to check the leakage.

3. It takes a strong human being to always be looking for good. Be that tough human being.

4. Talk to yourself. Your need to scroll Instagram would vanish.

5. To walk your own path requires courage. It isn’t disrespectful of anyone, as long as you are not disrespecting them.

6. To stay silent in a throng of un-wise words is a measure of immense inner power.

7. To speak your truth even when your voice shakes is being powerful (again).

8. Standing for yourself isn’t selfish.

9. Being there to understand is a mark of an understanding human being.

10. It is very very easy to get caught up in the celebrity and blitz of the world, share the photographs of “your perfect world” and the new things you bought. If you do not use social media to generate this triviality in others nor to consume it yourself, you’re already ahead of the majority of the world.

Small reminders. Small life. Make your time worth it! 😇

Five superpowers to never feel bad again

Superpowers:

  1. Ability to never drift away when the world tries to.
  2. Trying to listen to the pains of others and healing them emotionally.
  3. Honesty.
  4. Ability to say no.
  5. Ability to say yes to what’s right

Note to me on my journey

Don’t be too desperate.

Don’t be submissive either.

Walk your path, and walk assertively.

Bend, if need be. The one who bends is the one who has a flexible spine that could do anything.

Real gold is soft.

Yet, it is an alloy if there is any mixture.

And, rich is the human who doesn’t waste the resources of time, thoughts and powers.

You can, because there isn’t a time when you haven’t been able to.

No one will walk the journey for you

You have your loved ones with you.
They are supporting you in your journey.
Accepting you for what you are doing.
Loving you unconditionally.
And that’s beautiful!

However, there needs to be an additional element: Of accepting and appreciating yourself.

Too often when we are in the hustle and grind, we forget to be appreciative to the one person who needs it the most: Ourselves.

And that causes a deep lack that no one could ever be fulfilled.

It’s as important a habit as brushing your teeth. When you are self aware, working on what’s not working, appreciating yourself holds equivalent if not greater importance.

Right now. Starting today.

The tragedy of death

Death has taken bigger toll on 2020 than we had ever expected.

It has become a daily feat to conquer instead of facing it at the end of the life.

However, when death comes with a possibility threat, it also comes as a reminder:

1. That if it comes to grab us, let it take us away with our happiness, instead of letting its fear take away our happiness.

2. That there are people who need our support and just our emotional presence. We can always be there for them, even if we are not around them. Let our loved ones know you care. Because you do. And because they need you.

3. This moment is all we have. We don’t know what’s next, however we do own what we have now.

What to do when you feel empty?

When we feel empty, most of us navigate to social media.

Except that it doesn’t help.

Instead, what really helps is appreciation.

Whenever we are appreciated by someone, we feel a sense of validation.

Except, that it won’t come always.

So why not appreciate ourselves every time?

Why not be grateful for what is working?

Why not, be our own cheerleader?

Of course we can, when we can do it all the time for others.

If you feel lack…

If you feel lack of love, talk to your Mom.

If you feel lack of understanding, talk to your best friend.

If you feel lack of health, watch an influencer’s video on YouTube.

If you feel you lack happiness, talk to a kid.

If you feel away from yourself, talk to yourself.

A note on remote thinking

For almost half a year, we’ve all been working remotely. While the new world comes along with its advantages and disadvantages, there is something under the covers we fail to see:

Since we lack communication, we fall in the trap of assuming. That assumption is often towards the negative side.

Perhaps we can’t have more communication with others anyway.

So why not start having those with our own selves? Why not start figuring out the most powerful meanings, when the meaning is up to us? Why do we have to just go the negative way?

A note on trust

Trust yourself, as much as you trust others.

Trust yourself more often.

Trust others more often.

Trust the pain, because it solely is responsible for making you enjoy the joy of life.

Trust your hard work, it never goes to vain.

Trust your parents, even when you don’t want to.

Trust your friends, they are there for you – anytime and any place.

Trust your work, coz it will go out into the world and do more good.

More than anything else, trust yourself. You have handled worse in the past. This too, shall pass.

How I broke an old habit

For several months, I’ve been trying to change a habit of mine, which is: to not check work related WhatsApp messages and emails on Sundays.

However, despite multiple efforts, wasn’t able to get off the habit.

Same thing happened yesterday. I attended to work messages in the first half.

In the second half, I went to play badminton with my nephews and nieces. As a result, when I came back, still I didn’t open their WhatsApps. I didn’t have the urge in the first place!

It shows the power of physical activity on our mind, and how much controlling power we have.

No matter how important or urgent the work is, nothing is more important than the much-needed nothingness.

We all know the answers to these questions. Why don’t we execute them still?

Because deep down we still believe we don’t deserve the goodness that will follow. Our current state of mind has made us believe we are doomed for this little life. So, we make efforts and those efforts are never followed by self belief and trust in our own selves.

You have it all within you. The question is: What are you doing in order to remove the extra stone from the beautiful sculpture of your life?

Me and my parents

Today I wasn’t feeling good about my relationship with my parents. Somewhere I want them to talk about things that interest me.

However, later I realised that this is not the first time I have had the same emotions. Happened multiple times.

Till when would I allow myself to wallow in the same pain? Is my time so easy to be wasted?

So here’s what I did to keep me grounded:

• Made a gratitude list. My mood is my responsibility.

• Played a spiritual and practical video on YouTube while working

• Actually spoke with them. Because perhaps that is what they think of me.

That’s it. Problem solved. Rinse and repeat, the next time it occurs.

Money is an effort

For weeks I was struggling with making a new habit. I wanted to set a traffic control of my thoughts, and take one-minute breaks after each hour.

Tried downloading a few apps, none of which functioned.

So I set the alarm in my phone after every hour.

“What’s new with this?” you may ask!

I wanted the sound to be the one I loved and not the usual alarm stuff. However, iPhone doesn’t allow the desi jugad to add external sounds.

So I purchased a sound from the iTunes store and set that as an alarm.

Result? Those one-minute alarms are working wonders!

Here’s the psychological hack: Even though I spent a minuscule amount of Rs. 15 for a tailor-made service, it would make me use it to the fullest.

The magic is not of the amount of money, rather the effort of paying it will make me use it fully. Daily. Every hour.
